Terms: Full time (40 hours a week), one year initial contract
About OMDTZ
OpenMap Development Tanzania is a Non-Governmental Organization operating across Tanzania with offices located in Dar es Salaam. Since its establishment in 2017, OMDTZ has executed and promoted several community mapping projects, generated map awareness, actively pledged open datasets, and continued to build a network of enthusiastic mappers in Tanzania. OMDTZ heavily contributes to the OpenStreetMap platform, which is both a map and database of geographic data owned by contributors on OSM; anyone can view, create and use this information for free.
We create open datasets and advocate for different innovative solutions for different cases such as disaster response for floods, waste management etc.
OMDTZ is looking for a candidate with experience in digital content creation, video, graphic design, photography, etc. The candidate should ideally have a background in Journalism, Marketing, or Communications, or any other related field.
About You
OMDTZ is looking for someone passionate about development projects. We specialize in community mapping, innovation and open-source technology, data collection, analysis, and visualization, as well as training and building the capacity of others interested in Geographic Information Systems. For this role, we are looking for someone who is able to multitask, work with tight deadlines, and is highly organized. As Operations and HR Manager, you will work with multiple teams and projects, overseeing many of the functions of our Human Resources department and providing support to our staff. You should be familiar with the operations and
internal functions of local and international NGOs and knowledgeable about the development and humanitarian sector. You will work on a broad range of tasks and projects and have exposure to all aspects of the functioning of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead logistics for physical office space in Dar es Salaam
- Assist with staff recruitment by supporting the Executive Director and Admin team in position advertising, scheduling, and conducting interviews, other support as needed
- Support the onboarding processes for new hires, including training and documentation as well as managing adaptations of OMDTZ’s practices
- Lead asset management system for OMDTZ, including entry, maintenance, audit, and training of other staff
- Support analysis and development of processes for operations at OMDTZ (improving existing HR and Ops systems, such as timesheets)
- Lead new vendor identification, procurement and onboarding
- Research and advising on new systems and processes for operations, HR, and finance
- Support gender, diversity & inclusivity initiatives
- Train office staff on new organizational processes and systems
- Support creation and dissemination of printed and promotional materials for the office
- Support new business development through proposals and other fundraising initiatives
- Support planning and running of events led by OMDTZ
- Support travel management & bookings for conferences, staff meetings, etc.
- Perform other tasks as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
- A Diploma, Bachelor’s or greater degree in Human Resources, Nonprofit Management, Social Sciences, International Relations, International Development, or similar
- Passionate about humanitarian action and international development
- 1-3 years experience in non-profit, non-governmental organizations
- Quick learning and adoption of new systems, softwares, and processes
- Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and Swahili)
- A good sense of humor and willingness to learn
Compensation
OMDTZ values transparency and equity. The gross salary will range from 1,000,000 – 1,500,000 TZS, depending on the candidate’s experience. We have flexible working arrangements, but preferably the operations and human resource manager will spend time in-person, in the office, depending on the week’s tasks. OMDTZ also offers health care options for all of its staff working half time or more.
